It's generally better practice in an academic paper to address the arc of your argument in the thesis statement itself; in other words, go ahead and present the examples or the concept that links the examples in the thesis statement itself.<br /><br />Also, in the end analysis, did the Roman Empire not continue for a substantial number of years after the move to Constantinople? I'd suggest taking a look at what went on in Italy in the time period of the 4th to 6th centuries.
